Ex-Lawmaker Commends Tinubu’s Sack of Service Chiefs as Strategic Move

Former Lagos lawmaker Olumuyiwa Jimoh has hailed Tinubu’s sack of Service Chiefs, describing the move as a strategic step to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.

The decision on Tinubu’s sack of Service Chiefs has been hailed by former Lagos lawmaker Olumuyiwa Jimoh, who described it as a bold and strategic move aimed at reinforcing Nigeria’s security architecture. Jimoh, a former Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, made this known in an interview with journalists in Lagos on Friday. http://statehouse.gov.ng

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday announced sweeping changes in the country’s military leadership, a decision many analysts view as part of his efforts to restructure and strengthen national defence systems. According to a statement issued by one of his media aides, Sunday Dare, the shake-up is in line with the Federal Government’s drive to enhance national security and ensure better coordination among the armed forces.

In the official statement, Tinubu named Gen. Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing Gen. Christopher Musa. Others appointed include Maj.-Gen. W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, while Maj.-Gen. E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

Reacting to the announcement, Jimoh stated that Tinubu’s sack of Service Chiefs was neither surprising nor unusual, as it falls within the President’s constitutional authority to reorganize the military leadership when necessary. He described the decision as timely and in the national interest.

“It’s not a new thing,” Jimoh said. “The President has the authority to appoint or reshuffle the service chiefs to enhance the nation’s security structure. This may have been done to strengthen our defence system, and it is indeed a welcome development.”

Jimoh also addressed rumours circulating about an alleged coup plot linked to Tinubu’s sack of Service Chiefs, dismissing them as baseless and speculative.

“I’m not in the Nigeria Defence Academy or the military, but whether there are rumours or not, the President has every right to reshuffle his team — whether it’s the service chiefs, ministers, or ambassadors. That is why he is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” he said.

He further urged Nigerians to support the President’s efforts to strengthen the country’s security framework through decisive leadership and strategic appointments.
