Gombe Commissioner Abdullahi Bello Dies in Auto Crash

The Gombe State Government has confirmed the death of its Commissioner for Internal Security, retired Col. Abdullahi Bello, following a fatal auto crash along the Malam Sidi–Gombe road on Friday.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya announced the tragic incident in a statement signed by his Director-General, Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba-Misilli, describing the death as a “monumental tragedy” for the state and the nation.

According to the statement, Abdullahi Bello was returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, after attending the North East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Framework, when the accident occurred. He died alongside his police orderly, Sergeant Adamu Hussaini, while his driver sustained injuries and is receiving treatment. Abdullahi Bello Dies

Governor Yahaya paid glowing tribute to Bello, describing him as a disciplined officer, courageous leader, and dedicated public servant who used his military experience and patriotism to strengthen internal security in Gombe State.

“We received the heart-breaking news with profound sadness. The late Commissioner was a disciplined officer and dedicated public servant who played a vital role in consolidating the peace and security for which Gombe is renowned,” Yahaya said.

He added that Bello’s death is a huge loss not only to his family and the Gombe State Government but also to Nigeria, noting his invaluable contribution to national security and inter-agency collaboration.

“Bello will be remembered as a pillar of discipline, courage, and selfless service. He carried out his duties with unmatched diligence and a deep sense of responsibility,” Yahaya added.

The governor also highlighted Bello’s impactful contributions to the State Executive Council, particularly in formulating policies on internal security, community safety, and inter-agency synergy.

On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, Yahaya extended his heartfelt condolences to Bello’s family, associates, and the Balanga Local Government Area community.

“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannat Firdaus,” he prayed.

Governor Yahaya also commiserated with the family of Sergeant Adamu Hussaini, describing both men as patriots who died in active service to the state and the nation. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured driver.
