Eastwing Aviation Institute

Enugu, Nigeria – October 25, 2025.

Eastwing Aviation Institute, a rapidly growing aviation training institution in Nigeria’s South East, held its 2nd matriculation ceremony on Saturday at its Enugu campus. The event marked a major milestone as the Eastwing Aviation Institute formally welcomed a new cohort of students into its accredited aviation programs, reinforcing its mission to build a new generation of skilled aviation professionals.

The ceremony, graced by dignitaries, parents, and academic leaders, highlighted the Eastwing Aviation Institute’s growing reputation as a center of excellence for aviation education in Nigeria.

In his welcome address, Founder and Provost Dr. Christopher Edeh congratulated the newly admitted students, describing the occasion as “a great opportunity to witness the next generation of aviation professionals take off on their academic journey.” He recounted the humble beginnings of Eastwing Aviation Institute, established in 2012 in Lagos as a small aviation training center before expanding to Enugu in 2024. “Today, Eastwing Aviation Institute is approved by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE),” Dr. Edeh stated, adding that its programs now award national diplomas in aircraft engineering and maintenance technology. Dr. Edeh urged students to embrace discipline and hard work, noting that aviation offers vast global opportunities. “Aviation will take you around the world. Be proud of your path and stay disciplined,” he advised.

Delivering the matriculation lecture titled “Building an Aerial Future in Aviation via Excellent Training and Discipline,” Deputy Provost Dr. Segun Babalola emphasized that Eastwing Aviation Institute is shaping the future of aviation through practical training, technical innovation, and strong values. He discussed the evolution of aviation technology – from early aircraft to today’s advanced systems such as lighter, high-horsepower engines and four-axis flight directors – stressing that Eastwing Aviation Institute’s curriculum equips students for both preventive and corrective maintenance. “An airplane doesn’t have to be faulty before you act. Routine maintenance is the hallmark of professionalism,” he noted. Dr. Babalola outlined the institute’s two-year diploma program, which includes 16 weeks of industrial training after the first year and a one-year industrial experience after the second. He reminded students that “gold does not shine until it passes through fire,” encouraging perseverance and discipline throughout their training.

Representing Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof. Gordian Mbah commended Eastwing Aviation Institute for its vision, discipline, and commitment to excellence. He described the institution as “small in appearance but vast in quality,” and applauded its partnerships with universities to strengthen aviation research and training. He urged students to remain dedicated and uphold the discipline expected of aviation professionals.

Speaking on behalf of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Mrs. Mercy Amechi encouraged students of Eastwing Aviation Institute to embody responsibility and self-discipline. “You are now responsible for yourselves. Be on time, take your training seriously, and make your alma mater proud,” she said.

Newly admitted students expressed pride in joining Eastwing Aviation Institute. Williams Uke Agha said he chose the school for its discipline and practical training approach. Ifechukwu Franklin Uyamadu described it as “the best aviation school in the East.” Mrs. Florence Udechukwu, a proud parent, commended the institute for bringing aviation education closer to home.

In a post-event interview, Dr. Christopher Edeh reflected on his journey from serving in the Air Force in 1984 to studying aviation in Russia and teaching at the College of Aviation Technology, Zaria. He revealed that the Eastwing Aviation Institute was founded to address the underrepresentation of the South East in Nigeria’s aviation sector. “We wanted to bring world-class aviation education home,” he said. “It hasn’t been easy, but today’s matriculation proves our vision is taking flight.” He highlighted the institute’s modern facilities, including air-conditioned classrooms, simulation labs, and strong regulatory backing. Graduates of Eastwing Aviation Institute, he added, will qualify for licensing by the NCAA.

Registrar and Board Secretary, Mr. Hujo Nnamdi Ikeokwu, reaffirmed the Eastwing Aviation Institute’s commitment to innovation and discipline. “We are producing productive, bright, and vibrant youths who will transform the aviation industry,” he said.

The matriculation ceremony concluded with joy and optimism, as parents, faculty, and guests celebrated the students’ entry into the dynamic world of aviation – a future taking flight with Eastwing Aviation Institute leading the way.
