The Unity Schools Old Students Association has praised Governor Peter Mbah’s investment and reforms in education, citing innovation, infrastructure, and improved learning outcomes in Enugu State.

The Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) has commended Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his investment and reforms in education, reaffirming support for innovation across unity schools nationwide.

The commendation was made on April 25, 2026, during a courtesy visit by members of the association to the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, at the Government House in Enugu.

USOSA President-General, Michael Magaji, said the association’s vision aligns with the ongoing education reforms in Enugu State, especially in innovation, infrastructure, and improved learning outcomes.

According to him, the transition from conventional schools to smart, eco-friendly institutions, along with the development of modern learning environments, reflects a shared commitment to transforming public education.

Magaji noted that USOSA has continued to support educational development in unity schools through projects such as smart classrooms, improved teaching methods, and policy engagement with the Federal Ministry of Education.

He added that promoting patriotism and national development remains central to the association’s mission, describing Enugu State as a reliable partner.

The USOSA leader also said the association has been providing intellectual and practical leadership in reimagining education for the 21st-century Nigerian child.

Highlighting student and alumni welfare, Magaji stated that Enugu is hosting this year’s Unity School Games, featuring participants from more than 35 schools.

He said the event offers a platform for interaction, competition, and national integration.

Responding, Chidiebere Onyia praised USOSA for its contributions and described education as a major driver of economic growth and societal transformation.

He noted that Enugu State has recorded progress in revitalising the sector, including the upgrade of Government Technical College Enugu, which he described as an important historical and educational asset.

Onyia stressed the value of a dual-pathway learning system that recognises both academic and technical skills, noting that not all students must follow the university route.

He also urged USOSA to play a stronger role in shaping national education policies and ensuring accountability among stakeholders.

The SSG identified key sector challenges, including declining standards, outdated teaching methods, and poor teacher motivation, calling for broader reforms.

He assured the association of the Enugu State Government’s readiness to collaborate in advancing education and fostering innovation.
