Suspension of two ESUT staff over alleged extortion and regulation breaches has been approved by the university management, while another senior academic received a warning over poor departmental oversight.
ENUGU – The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has indefinitely suspended two members of staff in its Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering over alleged extortion and violations of the institution’s regulations.
The affected staff members are Dr. Collins Ojeh and Mr. Emmanuel Eze, according to separate suspension letters signed by the university’s Registrar, Mr. Ambrose Ugwu.
The disciplinary action followed the findings and recommendations of a committee established by the university to investigate allegations against the two officials.
For Dr. Ojeh, the university approved an indefinite suspension without pay, effective July 20, 2026. The approval was granted by the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the university management after the investigative committee reportedly found evidence relating to alleged extortion and breaches of ESUT’s regulations.
He was also directed to immediately hand over all university property in his possession to the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Mr. Eze was equally suspended with effect from July 20, 2026, pending the outcome of further investigations by the university’s Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
According to the university, his suspension was based on the same committee’s report, which linked him to alleged cases of extortion and regulatory violations. He was also instructed to surrender all university property in his possession to the Head of the Department.
In a related development, ESUT issued an official warning to the Acting Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Dr. Princewill Ene.
In a warning letter dated July 21, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor directed that Dr. Ene be formally cautioned for what the university described as inadequate monitoring of activities within and around the department during his tenure as Acting Head.
The institution further warned that any future report implicating him in similar matters would attract the maximum disciplinary sanctions provided under the university’s regulations.
The latest disciplinary measures underscore ESUT’s efforts to enforce institutional standards and address allegations of misconduct within the university.
