Kano State generated N102 billion revenue in 2025, up from N74 billion in 2024, as officials project N200 billion for 2026.
The Kano Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) says it generated N102 billion revenue in 2025, marking a significant increase from the previous year.
Chairman of the agency, Dr. Zaid Abubakar, disclosed this on April 26, 2026, during the KIRS Annual Dinner and Awards Night held in Kano.
According to him, the state recorded N102 billion in revenue in 2025 compared to N74 billion generated in 2024.
He added that Kano State now has a projected N200 billion revenue target for 2026.
Abubakar attributed the growth in revenue to restructuring efforts, improved tax compliance systems, and stronger institutional partnerships.
He said the service had positioned itself among leading tax authorities in Nigeria following the drafting of the Kano State Revenue Administration Law.
According to the chairman, the law aligns with the national tax framework while preserving Kano State’s unique strengths.
He also described the consolidation of Area Tax Offices from 28 to 12 Revenue Service Centres as a strategic move to improve efficiency and oversight.
To sustain reforms, Abubakar said the agency recruited 100 new staff members and introduced improvements in motor vehicle administration, number plate issuance, server uptime, and mobile enforcement equipment.
He further announced the introduction of a N2,000 Annual Development Levy, with 50 per cent of collections to remain at the community level for grassroots development.
The KIRS chairman said new state-of-the-art revenue service centres would be established across Kano to replace rented facilities.
He added that integration with the Nigeria Revenue Service would improve intelligence gathering and data-driven decision-making.
Abubakar commended staff of the service and urged them to remain dedicated and focused.
He said the awards presented during the event reflected merit, integrity, and exceptional service.
Also speaking, Kano State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Musa Shanono, praised KIRS for its strong performance in boosting state revenue generation.
Fatima Ahmad, Director of Human Resource Services at KIRS, congratulated award recipients, saying the recognition would motivate them to achieve more.
The event featured presentations to outstanding staff members in recognition of exceptional performances.
