The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread haze and sunshine across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet projected sunny and hazy skies over the northern region throughout the three-day forecast period.

According to the agency, similar hazy conditions are expected to persist across the North, with reduced air quality due to suspended dust particles.

For the southern region, NiMet predicted generally sunny skies with patches of clouds, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States later in the day.

On Thursday, the agency forecast sunny and hazy skies over the northern and central regions, while the southern region is expected to experience sunny conditions with cloud patches.

NiMet said morning thunderstorms with light rainfall may occur over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, while later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa States.

By Friday, NiMet projected sunny and hazy skies over the northern region during the morning hours, with increased dust haze expected in the afternoon and evening.

The central region is expected to experience sunny and hazy conditions throughout the period, while the southern region will see cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning and isolated thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States.

NiMet cautioned that dust particles remain in suspension over parts of the North-Central region and urged the public to take necessary health precautions.

The agency advised individuals with asthma and other respiratory conditions to be particularly cautious, urged motorists to drive carefully during rainfall, and encouraged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective operational planning.

Residents were also advised to stay informed through regular weather updates from NiMet.
