The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast dust haze, sunshine and isolated thunderstorms across the country from Saturday to Monday.
NiMet made this known in its three-day weather outlook released on Friday, January 3, 2026, in Abuja.
According to the agency, slight dust haze is expected on Saturday over parts of Borno, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara and Sokoto States, while the remaining parts of the northern region are projected to experience sunny conditions throughout the forecast period.
“For the central region, sunny skies with few cloud patches are anticipated throughout the forecast period,” NiMet stated.
It added that sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over the southern region, with prospects of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall later in the day over parts of Abia, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.
On Sunday, NiMet predicted moderate dust haze with visibility ranging between two and five kilometres over parts of Kano, Katsina, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Jigawa and Borno States.
The agency said the remaining parts of the northern region would remain sunny and hazy.
“For the central region, sunny skies with a few patches of clouds are expected during the forecast period,” it said.
In the southern region, NiMet forecast cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning hours, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the day over parts of Bayelsa, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Rivers and Cross River States.
On Monday, the agency envisaged slight dust haze across the entire northern region throughout the forecast period.
Sunny skies with a few patches of clouds are expected to prevail over the central region, while the southern region is forecast to experience cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning.
Isolated thunderstorms with light rainfall are anticipated later in the day over parts of Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers States.
NiMet advised motorists to exercise caution while driving under rainy conditions and urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency for effective operational planning.
Residents were also encouraged to stay updated through NiMet weather advisories, noting that dust particles remain in suspension over the northern region.
The agency warned that individuals with asthma and other respiratory conditions should take necessary precautions due to the prevailing weather conditions.
