IMT NBTE Accreditation strengthens technical education in Enugu as IMT secures five-year approval for all programmes, introduces new courses, and reflects Governor Peter Mbah’s reforms and the Rector’s leadership.

IMT NBTE Accreditation has received a major boost as the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, announced that all programmes it presented for accreditation, re-accreditation, and resource inspection have been fully approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the next five years.

The approval, granted after the NBTE exercise conducted between November 18 and 20, 2025, marks the second successful IMT NBTE Accreditation outing for the institution in the same year, a development widely seen as a strong validation of ongoing reforms in the Institute and Enugu State’s education sector.

In a statement issued by the Management of the Institute, IMT described the outcome as “a major academic milestone” that underscores its “sustained commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance, and compliance with national standards in technical and technological education.”

Beyond retaining existing programmes, the latest IMT NBTE Accreditation exercise also resulted in the approval of five new programmes, expanding the Institute’s academic scope in line with emerging global and national needs. The new programmes include National Diploma (ND) in Law; Higher National Diploma (HND) in Library and Information Science; HND in Cyber Security; HND in Artificial Intelligence; and HND in Mechanical Engineering (Automotive).

According to the Management, the introduction of these programmes positions IMT to respond more effectively to the demands of the digital economy, industrial innovation, and knowledge management, while strengthening Enugu State’s human capital base.

The Institute attributed the accreditation success to strong institutional leadership and sustained government support. It expressed “profound gratitude” to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, for what it described as his “visionary leadership, unwavering support for education, and continuous investment in the revitalisation of IMT and the education sector in Enugu State.”

Education analysts note that the latest IMT NBTE Accreditation aligns with Governor Mbah’s broader reform agenda, which prioritises skills acquisition, technology-driven learning, and the repositioning of public institutions to meet national and global benchmarks.

Special commendation was also given to the Rector of the Institute, Prof. Gozie Ogbodo, whose leadership was credited with driving the rigorous preparation that ensured full compliance with NBTE requirements. The Management noted that under his stewardship, IMT has adopted a more strategic and quality-focused approach to programme delivery and infrastructure development.

“The Management of the Institute, led by the Rector, Prof. Gozie Ogbodo, provided purposeful leadership and strategic direction that ensured adequate preparation and compliance with NBTE requirements,” the statement said, while also acknowledging the roles of Deans, Heads of Departments, and both academic and non-academic staff.

Students of the Institute were not left out, as Management praised their discipline and cooperation, noting that their conduct contributed positively to the successful outcome of the IMT NBTE Accreditation exercise.

Stakeholders believe that the accreditation has far-reaching implications. It secures the validity of IMT’s certificates, enhances graduate employability, attracts prospective students, and strengthens confidence among parents, employers, and development partners.

With this latest feat, IMT reaffirmed its status as “a centre of excellence in technical, technological, and management education,” stressing its resolve to uphold high academic standards and contribute meaningfully to human capital development in Enugu State and Nigeria.

As IMT looks ahead, the successful IMT NBTE Accreditation is expected to serve as a springboard for further institutional growth, deeper industry collaboration, and the production of skilled, innovative, and globally competitive graduates.

IMT stands poised to drive innovation, skills excellence, and future-ready manpower development.
