Early results from the Enugu State local government elections suggest a strong performance by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with candidates like John Ogbodo in Nkanu West Local Government Area (LGA) leading the race. Conducted by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), the elections have been notably peaceful, further boosting the prospects of the PDP sweeping the polls across the state.
At Akpugo II, the electoral ward of John Ogbodo, as in all wards in Nkanu West LGA, the election was smooth and orderly. Ogbodo, after casting his ballot, commended ENSIEC for organizing a well-structured and transparent process. “This election is a testament to the commitment of the Enugu State government, particularly Governor Peter Mbah, in ensuring a credible electoral system. I urge my supporters and the electorate to remain orderly as we await the final results,” Ogbodo stated.

He further expressed confidence in his party’s chances, attributing the anticipated victory to the solid foundation laid by the state governor. “If elected, I am fully committed to running an inclusive government where all voices are heard, and development is accelerated across every community in Nkanu West,” he added.
Peaceful conditions were reported across Akpugo wards 1, 3, 4, and 5, as well as in Agbani, Amurri, and Akegbe Ugwu 1 and 2 and the rest of the wards, with voters and election officials praising the smooth conduct of the polls. ENSIEC officials were observed at polling stations, ensuring that protocols were followed and that the process was seamless.

In Udenu LGA, Aka Eze Aka, the PDP chairmanship candidate, also praised the peaceful nature of the elections after voting at his Agamede Isienu Obollo-Eke ward. “The voting process has been peaceful, free, and smooth, much to the delight of the electorate,” Aka remarked. He highlighted his plans to replicate the achievements of Governor Mbah’s administration, particularly in improving rural roads, education, and healthcare in his area.
Reports from other parts of Enugu State indicate that the PDP is dominating the polls. In Oji River, Eze Onyemaobi, a local PDP leader, said, “The level of peace and organization in this election is remarkable. It shows the maturity of the electorate and the efficiency of ENSIEC.”

Another PDP supporter from Nsukka, Chief Ikechukwu Ogbu, shared similar sentiments. “This election proves that the PDP remains the party to beat in Enugu. The transparency of the process has given the people confidence in the results.”

Mr. Chijioke Chukwu, a youth leader and member of Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) from Awgu LGA, also lauded the conduct of the elections. “The peaceful atmosphere across polling units in my area is commendable. It’s refreshing to see an election devoid of violence and malpractice.”
In Isi-Uzo, Mrs. Chinwe Edeoga, a businesswoman, expressed optimism about the future of the state under PDP leadership. “The smoothness of today’s election shows that our democracy is maturing, and I am confident that PDP’s victory will usher in more development at the grassroots level.”
Commenting from Ezeagu, Hon. Patrick Anoliefo emphasized the role of the governor in ensuring a seamless election. “Governor Mbah’s administration has set a new standard for electoral transparency in Enugu State, and this has strengthened the PDP’s hold across the councils.”
As results continue to trickle in, it appears that the PDP is well-positioned to maintain its dominance in local government politics. Many observers attribute this success to the effective coordination by ENSIEC and the widespread support for Governor Peter Mbah’s policies, which resonate with the electorate at the grassroots level.
