NDC youths in Enugu have launched a strategic grassroots mobilisation drive as the party intensifies preparations for victory in the 2027 general elections.
The Enugu State Youth Wing of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched a grassroots mobilisation strategy aimed at securing victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.
The strategy was unveiled at the Enugu NDC Youth Inauguration and Leadership Summit held on Monday in Enugu, where youth leaders and party stakeholders focused on political organisation, grassroots mobilisation, voter education and effective participation in the electoral process.
The summit was convened to strengthen the structure of the NDC Youth Wing and equip members with the knowledge and skills required for political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development comes as the NDC continues to build its political structure in Enugu State. The party elected Dr. Johnpaul Anih as its state chairman in May 2026, with the exercise attracting party stakeholders and delegates from the state’s 17 local government areas.
The NDC has also intensified preparations for the 2027 governorship election in the state. Professor James Ene-Nwannaji emerged as the party’s governorship candidate after its May 2026 primary, according to reports on the exercise.
Speaking at the summit, the National Secretary of the NDC Youth Wing, Comrade Gideon Longlife, emphasised the importance of youth participation in shaping leadership and determining the political direction of society.
Longlife said strategic mobilisation and active participation by young people were essential to the party’s efforts to build a strong electoral structure.
Representing the Enugu State NDC Chairman, Dr. Johnpaul Anih, the Leader of NDC Chairmen in Enugu State, Mr. Hilary Ogbonna, commended the Youth Wing for its energy and commitment.
Ogbonna said grassroots mobilisation remained central to electoral success, noting that young people, because of their reach across urban and rural communities, were strategically positioned to expand the party’s support base and deliver its candidates.
In his keynote address, the Enugu State NDC Youth Wing Coordinator, Mr. Ude Jideofor, expressed appreciation to the state party executives, NDC candidates and members of the Youth Wing who contributed to the success of the inauguration.
Jideofor described the summit as a strategic platform for preparing young party members for effective political engagement and grassroots mobilisation.
“We, the youths, are ready to play a major role in NDC, especially in our state. This summit will ensure that our members have the right knowledge of political engineering to deliver NDC in 2027,” he said.
Jideofor reaffirmed the commitment of the Enugu State NDC Youth Wing to all the party’s candidates and pledged that members would intensify mobilisation across the state ahead of the elections.
The youth mobilisation comes as the NDC seeks to consolidate its growing political presence in Enugu and position itself as a major contender ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party’s national leadership has also been working to strengthen its structures and electoral preparations. In May, the NDC said it was positioning itself as a credible political alternative ahead of the 2027 elections, while continuing to expand its membership and organisational base.
In Enugu, the party’s political activities have included consultations, leadership restructuring and candidate selection across the state. The party’s governorship primary was conducted across the 17 local government areas, with Ene-Nwannaji subsequently emerging as the governorship candidate.
The summit brought together members of the NDC Youth Wing’s national leadership, Enugu State party executives, candidates and stakeholders from the 17 local government areas.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the party’s youth leadership said the mobilisation drive would continue across communities in Enugu State as the NDC works to translate its growing political structure into electoral support.
