Rescue operations by the Katsina State Police Command led to the safe recovery of two kidnapped women and the foiling of a cattle rustling attack in Kankia and Charanchi local government areas.

The Katsina State Police Command has recorded another successful rescue operation after foiling separate kidnapping and cattle rustling attempts in Kankia and Charanchi Local Government Areas, leading to the safe recovery of two abducted women.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Katsina.

According to the statement, the first incident occurred on Saturday at about 11:45 a.m., when suspected armed bandits riding three motorcycles attacked Jauga Settlement in Sabon Gida Village, Kankia Local Government Area, and abducted two women.

Sadiq-Aliyu said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kankia immediately mobilised operatives to the scene after receiving a distress call.

The operatives engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to flee into a nearby bush with suspected gunshot wounds while abandoning their victims.

The rescued women were identified as 20-year-old Rukayya Yahaya and 22-year-old Sahura Abdulhadi, both residents of the affected community.

In a separate operation on Monday, the command also foiled an attempted cattle rustling attack in Majen Waya Village, Charanchi Local Government Area.

Sadiq-Aliyu explained that the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m., when suspected armed bandits invaded the village intending to rustle cattle.

He said the Divisional Police Officer in Charanchi swiftly deployed an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol team, which confronted the attackers in a gun duel.

“The bandits were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the operatives and fled into the bush with suspected bullet wounds.

“No life was lost and no cattle were rustled during the operation. Normalcy has been restored to the area, while aggressive tactical patrols are ongoing,” he said.

The police spokesperson added that efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ali Umar-Fage, commended the gallantry and swift response of the operatives, describing their actions as a demonstration of the command’s commitment to combating crime.

The commissioner also reaffirmed the police command’s resolve to protect lives and property across Katsina State and appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support security operations and facilitate prompt responses to criminal activities.
