Unity took centre stage as Abia Governor Alex Otti urged Labour Party stakeholders in Nsulu to strengthen collaboration, grassroots mobilisation and party structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has urged stakeholders of the Labour Party in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, to embrace greater unity and collective action as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Otti made the call at the Nsulu Labour Party Stakeholders’ Summit held at the Umuomainta Women’s Hall, under the theme, “Sustaining the Transformation: A United Labour Party in Nsulu for 2027 and Beyond.”
The governor, who was represented by the Labour Party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East, Ishmael Onuoha, said unity, peace and inclusive leadership were essential to sustaining development and strengthening the party ahead of the polls.
He urged stakeholders to remain actively involved in party activities rather than standing on the sidelines, stressing the need for members to align with the administration’s development vision and work collectively towards shared political objectives.
Otti called for respect for legitimate party leadership and inclusive participation in decision-making, maintaining that peaceful collaboration remained critical to the progress of both the party and the Nsulu community.
The governor assured stakeholders that concerns raised during the summit would receive appropriate attention, describing the gathering as an important step towards greater cooperation and political success.
He also urged members to sustain the spirit of unity beyond the summit and intensify efforts to strengthen the Labour Party’s grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Caleb Ajagba, described Nsulu as a community blessed with prominent and influential men and women.
Ajagba said the immediate task before party stakeholders was to build an organised and formidable political structure capable of mobilising support for Otti’s second-term ambition and other Labour Party candidates.
He stressed that every stakeholder had a role to play in strengthening the party, adding that the responsibility of building a winning political structure could not be left to elected officials alone.
The Chief of Staff expressed optimism that the collective efforts of stakeholders would provide a stronger foundation for the party in the area and across Isiala Ngwa North.
Also speaking, the Abia State Chairman of the Labour Party, Peter Azubuike, urged Nsulu leaders to work closely with stakeholders across the different political blocs in the local government area.
Azubuike said securing another term for Otti and victory for other Labour Party candidates should be a collective responsibility, arguing that the administration’s development projects should inspire stronger grassroots support.
The Chairman of Abia Arise, Otti’s political structure, Nkem Okoro, also stressed the importance of unity among the three major political blocs in Isiala Ngwa North — Nsulu, Ngwaukwu and Ntigha.
He said a common political objective and stronger collaboration among the blocs would significantly improve the party’s chances in future elections.
In a presentation titled, “Labour Party Nsulu: The Challenges and Way Forward,” a stakeholder, Dr Chris Ugwumadu, said unity would remain central to the party’s success in 2027.
Ugwumadu acknowledged that the growth of any political organisation could come with internal challenges but said stakeholders must resolve their differences and remain focused on their shared objectives.
He urged party members to put aside personal differences, strengthen the Labour Party at the grassroots and work collectively towards delivering the governor and other party candidates at the polls.
Other stakeholders, including Chief Godwin Nnaji and Dr John Enyioko, also called for sustained cooperation among community and party leaders.
They urged Nsulu to make a significant contribution to the Labour Party’s electoral performance and maintain unity of purpose as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
The stakeholders highlighted major development projects in the area, including the Umuomaiukwu Smart School and the Abia International Airport project, as investments with significant potential benefits for Nsulu and Abia State.
The Women Leader of Umuomainta Community, Mrs Esther Mbuko, called for stronger grassroots mobilisation, urging party members to intensify door-to-door and person-to-person engagement.
She said the policies and programmes of the Otti administration had benefited residents and called for collective efforts to sustain the development agenda.
Similarly, the Councillor representing Isiala Nsulu Ward 3, Mrs Chinyere Obadiah, said Otti had remained committed to the rebuilding agenda outlined before he assumed office.
She urged residents to make deliberate efforts to participate in the electoral process and support the party’s mobilisation efforts.
The summit ended with the election and inauguration of Executive Council members of the Nsulu Labour Party Stakeholders Forum, which is expected to play a key role in coordinating grassroots engagement and strengthening party unity in the area.
With political activities gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, Otti’s message places unity, inclusive leadership and grassroots mobilisation at the centre of the Labour Party’s strategy in Nsulu and the wider Isiala Ngwa North area.
