Enugu Govt Redesigns Phase 3 of New Enugu Smart City into Satellite Town, Sets July 31 Deadline

The Enugu State Government has announced the redesign of Phase 3 of the New Enugu Smart City into a full-fledged satellite town as part of efforts to accelerate the development of the ambitious urban renewal project. The government also directed individuals who previously acquired land within the designated acquisition area to present their documents for verification on or before July 31, 2026.

The announcement, contained in a public notice issued on Monday by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, said the redesign is intended to facilitate the provision of modern infrastructure and public utilities across the entire Phase 3 of the project. According to the government, the planned facilities include roads, drainage systems, schools, hospitals, parks and other essential amenities that will support the development of the New Enugu Smart City.

Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the initiative is in line with the administration’s commitment to delivering the New Enugu Smart City in accordance with the state’s land acquisition framework. “The aim is to designate the entire Phase 3 as a Satellite Town of the New Enugu Smart City and accordingly ensure the deployment of critical infrastructure and public utilities, including roads, drainage, schools, hospitals and parks,” Onyia said in the public announcement.

The government also reiterated that any land transaction carried out within the state acquisition area without prior approval of the Enugu State Government would not be recognised. It urged members of the public who had previously entered into land transactions within the designated New Enugu Smart City Satellite Town to visit the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development with all relevant documents before July 31, 2026 for necessary verification and processing.

The latest move underscores the state government’s drive to establish the New Enugu Smart City as a modern, well-planned urban centre supported by integrated infrastructure, regulated land administration and sustainable development. Prospective land buyers and existing claimants have therefore been advised to comply with the government’s directive to safeguard their interests and ensure orderly implementation of the project.
