Ogun State Police have tracked down and arrested two fugitives in Ijebu-Ode linked to a high-profile kidnapping and brutal murder case in Okada, Edo State.
In a major cross-border security breakthrough, the Ogun State Police Command has tracked down and arrested two high-profile fugitives in Ijebu-Ode who are allegedly linked to a violent kidnapping and murder syndicate operating out of Edo State.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the high-stakes arrests in an official statement released Saturday in Abeokuta. He disclosed that the suspects were cornered at the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode following a meticulous, intelligence-driven operation spearheaded by tactical operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
The tactical breakthrough follows an initial intercept on June 4, where personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service initially detained the individuals before transferring them to the police for deep-dive forensic profiling.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects are wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into a kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State,” DSP Babaseyi stated.
Deepening intelligence gathered by the Ogun Command reveals that the two arrested individuals are part of a notorious seven-man kidnapping syndicate that has been terrorizing travel corridors and communities across the midwest region.
During the targeted raid, police operatives searched the suspects and recovered incriminating evidence, including one pair of official police camouflage uniforms-frequently used by transit criminals to impersonate law enforcement-alongside three active mobile phones used for coordinating operations.
Because the primary capital offenses were committed outside its territorial jurisdiction, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that both the suspects and the recovered exhibits are being expedited for transfer to the Edo State Police Command.
This inter-state cooperation will facilitate seamless prosecution and enable investigators to track down the remaining five members of the syndicate currently at large.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bode Ojajuni, highly commended the sharp professionalism, diligence, and tactical speed displayed by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. CP Ojajuni re-issued a stern warning to interstate syndicates, emphasizing that Ogun State will never be allowed to serve as a safe haven, hideout, or transit corridor for criminal elements.
The command urged the general public to maintain a high level of situational awareness and continue feeding security networks with real-time, actionable data to suppress criminality across the federation.
