Enugu East Senatorial District has endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah for second terms, backing the declaration with a whopping N300 million campaign fund.

In what has been widely described as the mother of all political gatherings in recent state history, a mammoth crowd of the Nkanu clan converged on the Okpara Square on Saturday for the “Ofu Obi Mega Rally,” declaring total endorsement for Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The massive solidarity rally reached a crescendo as traditional rulers presented Governor Mbah with the Ofo-the Igbo traditional symbol of authority, justice, and alignment. Further cementing their absolute commitment to his administration, the people of the Enugu East Senatorial District backed their endorsement by presenting a N300 million cheque to fund Mbah’s reelection campaign.
Prominent stakeholders from across the zone asserted that Governor Mbah’s campaign vision to transform Enugu State into a premier national economy has transcended mere political rhetoric to become a tangible reality. They praised the visible milestones achieved across critical infrastructure, security, modern transportation, agriculture, tech ecosystem growth, and foundational education reforms.
Furthermore, leaders at the rally emphasized that Enugu’s tactical alignment with the federal center under President Tinubu’s administration has yielded substantial dividends for the state through strategic federal appointments and massive capital interventions.
In their welcome addresses, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, and the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, stated that the unprecedented turnout was an organic expression of gratitude from citizens witnessing an accelerated structural turnaround.

“Across all the sectors, the evidence of transformational leadership is speaking louder than propaganda. The people can see the difference,” Ogbodo declared. “Indeed, if it were possible to borrow governors, other states would have been lining up to borrow our governor.”
Addressing the cheering crowd, former President of the Senate, Senator Ken Nnamani, issued a stern warning against shifting the state’s leadership to political opportunists. He heavily criticized prospective opponents who rely on forged credentials or carry deep-seated political grievances.
“I am one of those who said that Mbah has vision and he is rich in ideas and educational strategy. But if you are rich in forgery, you can’t make a good leader. Nkanu people don’t associate with such shameful acts, people who procure certificates at Oluwole Street,” Nnamani fired back, insisting that leadership birthed out of personal anger yields zero vision for the collective populace.
Adding his weight to the declaration, elder statesman and former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, maintained that Mbah’s unparalleled performance has unified all political divides, including the APC, PDP, and other minority parties. Nwobodo declared that since Enugu West and Nsukka zones enjoyed uninterrupted eight-year tenures, equity demands that Mbah completes his full two terms.
Responding to the overwhelming reception, Governor Mbah lauded the electorate for taking a “leap of faith” on his vision back in 2023. He reeled out cross-sector proofs of his administration’s impact, including the rollout of Smart Green Schools in every ward, expanded healthcare, state-of-the-art transport terminals complete with Wi-Fi-enabled air-conditioned buses, the emergence of Enugu Air, and a steady influx of global investors.
Looking ahead, Mbah announced a major industrial milestone: “A few days from now, we will break ground on a 660MW coal-fired power plant that moves us closer to a future where our people no longer plan their lives around darkness. In a literal sense, the lights will go on in Enugu permanently.”
The Governor further applauded President Tinubu’s bold macroeconomic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that eliminating the unsustainable subsidy regime has successfully freed up vital resources, giving states significantly enhanced fiscal capacity to execute capital developments.
Mbah concluded by cautioning the state to beware of “political cowboys” who trade in noise, division, and provincial thinking, emphasizing that his administration will consistently answer its critics with undeniable, continuous results.
