Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army have recorded a major breakthrough in Kogi after arresting three suspects and recovering 314 rounds of ammunition during intelligence-led operations.
Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army have disrupted a suspected terrorist logistics network in Kogi State, arresting three suspects and recovering 314 rounds of ammunition in separate security operations.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday in Lokoja by the Brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, who said the successful operations followed a three-month intelligence-led crackdown on terrorist supply routes within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
According to him, the first operation was carried out on March 29 along the Jamata–Owara Road in Lokoja Local Government Area, where troops intercepted a suspected courier riding a motorcycle fitted with a concealed compartment allegedly used for transporting ammunition.
He said preliminary investigations linked the suspect to known terrorist elements, prompting further tactical operations.
Abdullahi added that the second operation took place on April 20 after troops received credible intelligence regarding the movement of logistics operatives.
He explained that soldiers at Response Area Oshokoshoko mounted a snap checkpoint along the Obajana–Kabba Road and intercepted a Toyota bus travelling from Makurdi, leading to the arrest of two additional suspects.
A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered a sack containing 314 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and three AK-47 rifle magazines hidden behind the driver’s seat.
Other recovered items included two mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number (NIN) slip, and an identification card.
The spokesperson said the suspects and recovered items had been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation.
He noted that the arrests followed the earlier capture of a high-profile ammunition courier, Mathew Elisha, also known as Nasara, who had reportedly been on security watch lists.
Abdullahi said the latest interception demonstrates the vigilance and proactive posture of troops in denying criminal elements freedom of movement and disrupting their logistics networks.
