NiMet predicts three days of sunshine and cloudy conditions across Nigeria, with isolated thunderstorms expected in parts of the South and North Central.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and cloudy conditions across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday, with chances of isolated thunderstorms in several states.

The agency made this known in its weather outlook released in Abuja on Saturday.

Sunday Outlook

NiMet forecast sunny skies across the northern region throughout the day, while the North Central region is expected to experience sunshine with patches of clouds.

The agency predicted isolated thunderstorms over parts of Kogi State, Niger State, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa State and Kwara State.

Southern states including Lagos State, Ogun State, Ondo State, Delta State and Cross River State are expected to experience cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine and possible morning thunderstorms. Later in the day, moderate rainfall is expected in parts of Ekiti State, Osun State, Edo State, Imo State, Enugu State, Abia State, Anambra State, Bayelsa State, Rivers State and Akwa Ibom State.

Monday Outlook

Sunny conditions are expected across the northern region, with chances of isolated thunderstorms in southern parts of Taraba State.

NiMet predicted light rain in parts of Kogi and Nasarawa states in the morning, while moderate rainfall is expected later in the day over parts of Benue State.

In the South, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected across several states including Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Rivers and Delta.

Tuesday Outlook

The agency predicted sunny skies across northern Nigeria, while the North Central region will experience sunshine with patches of clouds. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with light rain are expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau State and Niger State.

Southern states including Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Edo are expected to experience morning thunderstorms, with moderate rain later in parts of Ondo, Edo, Imo and Bayelsa states.

NiMet warned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms and advised residents to take precautions. The agency urged the public to secure loose objects, avoid driving during heavy rainfall, disconnect electrical appliances, and stay away from tall trees.

It also warned that high temperatures may cause thermal discomfort and advised residents to stay hydrated, wear breathable clothing and remain in well-ventilated environments.

NiMet further advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning.
