Police in Delta State say 15 suspects are now in custody following alleged sexual assault in Ozoro community.
The Nigeria Police Force in Delta State has confirmed that 15 suspects are now in custody over the alleged sexual assault incident in Ozoro.
The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Asaba, saying eleven additional suspects were arrested following intensified investigations.
Edafe said the arrests followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adeshina, who ordered the CP Special Assignment Team to conduct a thorough probe into the incident in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro.
According to him, operatives analysed video evidence and intelligence, leading to the arrest of the additional suspects.
He identified some of those arrested as Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro and Evidence Oguname, alongside six others.
Edafe said preliminary findings indicated that criminal elements exploited the situation to perpetrate acts of sexual violence.
He stressed that the acts were not representative of any legitimate cultural practice in the community.
The police commissioner condemned the incident and assured the public that all those involved would be identified and prosecuted.
The command urged victims and witnesses to provide credible information to support ongoing investigations.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring justice for victims and maintaining law and order in the state.
