Nigeria’s national electricity grid has suffered another system failure, marking the second collapse in 2026.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) announced that the system collapse occurred at 10:48 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, leading to a loss of power supply across its network.
In a notice posted on its official X handle, EKEDC informed customers of the development and appealed for patience.
“Dear Valued Customer, kindly be informed that there was a system collapse at 10:48 a.m. Tuesday morning which resulted in a loss of power across our network.
“We are currently working with our partners and hope for the speedy restoration of the grid.
“We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored,” the company stated.
The incident comes barely four days after a similar system collapse on January 23, 2026, which also disrupted electricity supply across several distribution networks nationwide.
Repeated grid failures have continued to raise concerns over the stability and resilience of Nigeria’s power infrastructure, with businesses and households bearing the economic and social impact of frequent blackouts.
