Ambulance services have received a major boost in Awgu LGA as the Obi Ebere Chukwu Awgu Health Mission Foundation launches its first Advanced Life Support Ambulance to improve emergency healthcare access for underserved communities.
The Obi Ebere Chukwu Awgu Health Mission Foundation has launched its first Advanced Life Support Ambulance, marking a significant step towards strengthening emergency healthcare delivery in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The Awgu-based health mission organisation, managed by Rev. Fr. Kingsley Udeh, unveiled the ambulance on Saturday, August 22, 2026, as part of efforts to bring timely and quality emergency medical services closer to underserved communities across the Greater Awgu Province.
Speaking at the launch, Udeh said the initiative was driven by compassion, service and a commitment to improving the wellbeing of people in the community.
He said the foundation had remained focused on bringing quality healthcare closer to people who face challenges accessing essential medical services.
According to him, the initiative is also inspired by the Ubuntu philosophy, which emphasises collective responsibility, compassion and helping one another.
Udeh explained that the Advanced Life Support Ambulance would provide critical assistance during medical emergencies, helping patients receive timely care and improving their chances of accessing appropriate medical attention.
He expressed appreciation to individuals and organisations that supported the initiative, saying their contributions would help the foundation advance its broader vision of improving healthcare delivery in Awgu and neighbouring communities.
The chairman of the occasion, Dr. Alphonsus Nwafor, commended Udeh for his vision and commitment to improving healthcare services in the area.
Nwafor described the ambulance as an important investment in the health and wellbeing of residents of Awgu and surrounding communities.
Chairman of Okeyson Group Nigeria Ltd. and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Awgu Egbeli Development Union, Chief Okey Udeji, also praised the initiative.
Udeji, who was represented at the event by Chief Camillus Ogbuagu, Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Abia State Branch, said the project demonstrated Udeh’s commitment to the development and wellbeing of his people.
Speaking on behalf of the Development Union’s Board of Trustees, he pledged the union’s support for the foundation and expressed confidence that the ambulance would have a positive impact on the community.
Among the dignitaries at the event were Most Rev. Johnson Ekwe, Bishop of Niger West; Mr. Ebere Amarizu, Chairman of United States Exchange and Director of Rangers International Foundation; and Mr. Obodoeze Ocho, ADC Enugu State gubernatorial candidate.
The dignitaries commended Udeh and the foundation for the initiative and pledged their support towards its vision of improving healthcare delivery in Awgu.
The event also featured the induction of volunteers into the foundation’s emergency support team, expanding the human-resource base available to support emergency response activities.
The launch of the Advanced Life Support Ambulance represents a community-driven intervention aimed at reducing delays in accessing emergency medical care and complementing existing healthcare services in Awgu and surrounding communities.
