The EEDC power outage disrupted electricity supply across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states on Monday following a sudden loss of supply from the company’s power source. The outage occurred at about 10:48 a.m., leaving several communities without electricity.
In a statement issued on January 27, 2026, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) said the outage affected customers served by its subsidiary distribution companies—MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra and EastLand—across the five South-East states.
EEDC explained that the cause of the loss of supply had not yet been determined as of the time of the announcement, but assured customers that efforts were already underway to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
According to the statement signed by Emeka Ezeh, Group Head, Corporate Communications at EEDC, the company is actively liaising with relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely restoration of power supply to all affected areas.
The electricity distribution firm appealed for patience and understanding from customers, while apologising for the inconvenience caused by the outage, reaffirming its commitment to restoring stable electricity supply across its network.
