Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has called on civil servants in the state to support his administration’s efforts to achieve its projected Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target for 2026.

Mbah made the call on Monday, January 5, 2026, during the 2026 New Year Workers’ Mass held at the Government House Chapel, Enugu.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Holy Mass was officiated by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga, who was represented by the Diocesan Vicar General, Monsignor Geoffrey Aguigwo.

According to NAN, Enugu State has projected an internally generated revenue of ₦870 billion for 2026, translating to a daily revenue target of ₦2.5 billion.

The governor stressed that the realisation of the revenue projection depends largely on the commitment and efficiency of civil servants across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

He described civil servants as the “engine room of government,” noting that the success or failure of any administration is directly tied to how effectively public officers discharge their responsibilities.

“Our civil servants and permanent secretaries are the engine room of whatever we achieve, whether success or failure.

“That is why we are going to double down this year. It is about the little things we do, those atomic habits, getting to work on time and playing our respective roles in the scheme of things,” Mbah said.

He urged workers to support one another, stressing that teamwork and accountability are essential to achieving the administration’s common objective of serving the people.

“If we find that a colleague is failing, it is incumbent on us to provide support and fill the gap. This is important as we look forward to the ambitious goals we have set for this year,” he added.

Mbah acknowledged that global geopolitical tensions could pose challenges to revenue generation but expressed confidence that the state could absorb external shocks through collective effort and improved performance across MDAs.

He also commended religious leaders for their continued support, assuring that his administration would not relent despite progress already made.

“It is right to begin the year in prayer. It is an honest admission of the role of divine oversight in our lives.

“We will continue to count on your prayers, counsel and honest feedback, which we do not take for granted,” the governor said.

In his sermon, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Rev. Fr. Anthony Udeh, emphasised the importance of gratitude and thanksgiving at the start of the new year.

He urged civil servants to emulate Governor Mbah’s leadership style, describing him as a servant leader, and charged them to carry out their duties with integrity and dedication.
