LAGOS, October 3, 2025 – The Lagos State Police Command has commenced full-scale enforcement of the law regulating the use of tinted glass on vehicles across the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, stressing that the enforcement followed directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, aimed at boosting public safety, curbing crime, and ensuring strict compliance with traffic regulations.

Adebisi explained that motorists with tinted vehicle windows must obtain an official permit through www.possap.gov.ng, warning that unregistered owners risk having their vehicles impounded and prosecuted. She added that those unwilling to secure permits must remove the tints or replace them with transparent factory-fitted glasses in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.

“While enforcing this directive, our officers are under strict orders to act professionally and avoid harassment or extortion. Any officer or supervisor found culpable will face sanctions,” Adebisi quoted Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, as saying.

The Police Command appealed for public cooperation, assuring residents that the exercise was not meant to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to enhance overall security. Members of the public were also urged to report cases of misconduct through the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) via hotlines 09111111150, 09111991116, 08090277712, 08090277714, 08090277713, 08090277711 or through social media platforms: WhatsApp – 09111111151; X (formerly Twitter) – @LagosPoliceNG, @CruLagospolice; Facebook – @NPF Lagos; and Instagram – @Policeng_Lagos.
