President Bola Tinubu has mourned Presidential Villa Assistant Director of Media, Peter Onwubuariri, describing his death as a painful loss to Nigeria and the media community.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mourned the death of Mr Peter Chukwuemeka Chijioke Onwubuariri, an Assistant Director of Media at the Presidential Villa, describing his passing as a painful loss to the Presidency, the media community and Nigeria.
Onwubuariri died after a prolonged illness.
In a statement, President Tinubu described the late veteran journalist and public servant as a dedicated professional whose contributions to journalism and national service would be remembered.
The late Onwubuariri, a former North American Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), was posted to the Presidential Villa in 2014.
He subsequently served in the media teams of three successive administrations — those of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the current administration of President Tinubu.
During his journalism career, Onwubuariri covered a wide range of important national and international issues, including foreign affairs, telecommunications, politics and finance.
Before his posting to the Presidential Villa, he rose through the ranks at NAN and served as an Assistant Editor-in-Chief, contributing significantly to the agency’s editorial and journalism operations.
President Tinubu commended the late media professional for his dedication, professionalism and commitment to duty, noting that his years of service across three administrations reflected his competence, integrity and loyalty to the nation.
“Peter was a dedicated journalist and a committed public servant whose professionalism and calm disposition earned him the respect of his colleagues and associates. His years of service to three administrations are a testament to his competence, integrity and commitment to duty,” the President said.
“His passing is a great loss to the Presidential Villa, the media fraternity and Nigeria. He will be remembered for his diligence, his wealth of experience and his contributions to journalism and national service.”
President Tinubu extended his condolences to Onwubuariri’s wife, Catherine, his three children, extended family, colleagues and friends.
The President also prayed that God Almighty would grant the family the strength to bear the loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.
