Enugu – In a breaking development earlier today, Senator Kelvin Chukwu has once again emerged victorious against his opponents at the Enugu National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal. The tribunal dismissed the petitions brought forth by Chimaroke Nnamani, former two-time governor of Enugu State and two-time Senator of Enugu East Senatorial District of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Adaku Ogbu-Aguocha of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Declaring that Senator Chukwu of the Labour Party was the candidate duly elected by majority of lawful votes cast, the tribunal, among other things stated that the issue of Kelvin Chukwu’s nomination by the Labour Party to stand for election is a pre-election matter and thus dismissed the petitions for lack of jurisdiction. It further asserted that both Nnamani and Ogbu-Aguocha, who are not members of the Labour Party, were considered meddlesome interlopers in this instance.

As part of its ruling, the tribunal ordered Nnamani to pay a fine of five hundred thousand naira (₦500,000) only, while Ogbu-Aguocha received a similar penalty of two hundred and fifty thousand naira(₦250,000) only. This outcome solidifies Senator Kelvin Chukwu’s position as the winner of the senatorial election, reaffirming his role as a senator for the people of Enugu East Senatorial District.

Senator Chukwu, a member of the Labour Party, has consistently proven his mettle in the political arena. With this recent victory at the Enugu National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal, he can continue his legislative work, addressing the concerns and aspirations of his constituents.

Senator Kelvin Chukwu polled 69,136 valid votes to thoroughly thrash former governor Chimaroke Nnamani expelled by the PDP before the election who had 48,000 votes, and Ada Ogbu-Aguocha who came a distant third with 8,500 votes. GMTNews
