Governor Peter Mbah has urged APC supporters in Enugu to vote for the party’s candidates across positions in Saturday’s local government election and the 2027 general election.
Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his supporters to vote for the party’s candidates across positions in the September 26 local government elections and the 2027 general election.
Mbah made the call on Thursday at Amagunze, headquarters of Nkanu East Local Government Area, during an APC grand rally jointly organised by the Nkanu East and Nkanu West councils ahead of Saturday’s local government election.
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has scheduled the election for September 26, with 17 chairmanship and 260 councillorship positions to be contested across the state.
Mbah cautioned APC supporters against splitting their votes among candidates of different political parties, urging them to support APC candidates across the positions.
“Let no one lie to you. Let no one deceive you about splitting your votes by voting different candidates of different political parties for different positions. It is all lies. Vote APC all the way, from top to bottom. There is no room for vote sharing,” he said.
The governor also urged APC supporters to turn out for the election, linking his appeal to what he described as the performance of his administration and the support and reforms of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“You have to vote in the coming local government elections because of what you see around you. If our opponents ask you why you should vote APC, tell them to look around. It is as clear as daylight,” Mbah said.
“Remember, don’t take anything for granted. It is not over until it is over. Come out on Saturday and thumbprint for APC,” he added.
Mbah said his administration recognised rural communities as an area requiring greater attention and identified rural infrastructure as important to addressing poverty and supporting development.
“We recognise that our weakest link is our rural areas and that is why we are paying serious attention to providing infrastructure in our rural areas – roads, Smart Green Schools and Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, among others,” he said.
He added that local government chairmen had been encouraged to deliver projects such as boreholes, rural roads and health facilities in their communities.
Mbah also said increased funding to states and local governments had created greater fiscal space for development projects, adding that some projects would not have been possible without federal support.
The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria and Nkanu East Local Government Area, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, welcomed the governor and expressed support for the APC and Mbah’s administration.
Edeh described the council election as an opportunity for voters to demonstrate their support for the APC and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Chief John Ogbodo, commended Mbah for projects including Smart Green Schools across the council.
Also speaking, the member representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nnoli Nnaji, commended the governor’s development initiatives.
Nnaji said federal lawmakers from Enugu East Senatorial District had supported development efforts in the area, citing the provision of electricity transformers to the 14 wards in Nkanu East Local Government Area, as well as vehicles for party officials and support for the Neighbourhood Watch in the constituency.
The rally was attended by the Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District, Senator Kevin Chukwunwike; APC Deputy National Chairman, South, Dr. Ben Nwoye; South-East APC Zonal Woman Leader, Dr. Oby Ajih; APC Enugu State Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike; members of the National and State Assemblies, and other party leaders and supporters.
The rally came two days before the September 26 local government election, amid campaigns by political parties across Enugu’s 17 local government areas. Seven political parties, including the APC, had earlier signed a peace accord committing parties, candidates and supporters to peaceful participation in the poll.
