A devastating evening rainstorm has left two people dead and over 50 houses destroyed in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, displacing dozens of families.
A violent rainstorm has claimed two lives and destroyed more than 50 houses in Dokan Mai-Jama’a, located within the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Village Head of the community, Alhaji Hamisu Tukur, confirmed the development, describing the storm as sudden and highly destructive. He noted that the heavy downpour completely flattened several structures, ripped off rooftops, and left a large number of local families entirely displaced and exposed to harsh weather conditions.
According to local residents, the heavy rainfall began at approximately 6:41 p.m. on Monday and was accompanied by exceptionally strong winds that lasted for more than 40 minutes.
The aftermath of the disaster saw numerous families sorting through the debris to salvage their household items and personal belongings. Many affected heads of households have been forced to seek temporary accommodation with relatives and neighbors while trying to process the sudden loss of their homes.
The devastation also spread to the neighboring Sabon Gyero community, which sits within the Millennium City area of the same local government council. In Sabon Gyero, the severe weather pulled down more than ten perimeter fences, damaged several residential buildings, and caused significant property losses.
Eyewitnesses reported that the intense downpour also resulted in severe traffic gridlock along the main access routes, forcing motorists to seek alternative paths due to fallen debris and blocked roads.
In response to the emergency, the affected victims have made an urgent appeal to the Kaduna State Government, the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and federal authorities for immediate humanitarian intervention. Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Kaduna has officially deployed an assessment team to Dokan Mai-Jama’a to evaluate the total scale of the damage and coordinate the necessary emergency relief materials for the displaced residents.
