Enugu Governor Peter Mbah has called for a thorough and impartial police investigation into recent political violence in the state, including a shooting that left a resident injured, warning that anyone found responsible must face the law regardless of political connections.
Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, has called for a thorough and impartial police investigation into recent violence surrounding a political gathering in the state, including a shooting incident that left a citizen injured.
In an address to the people of Enugu, the governor expressed concern over the incident and sympathised with those injured, residents who experienced fear and families affected by the violence.
Mbah said the reports were troubling and deserved serious attention, stressing that the safety and well-being of residents remained important.
He noted that incidents of political violence could create anxiety among residents and undermine confidence in the peace and security of the state.
The governor emphasised that every citizen, regardless of political affiliation, must be able to exercise their political rights without fear or violence.
Addressing allegations linking the state government to the violence, Mbah said the government’s responsibility was to protect lives, uphold the law and ensure that justice was pursued without favour.
He said he expected the police to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation, taking into account the preliminary findings concerning the incident.
The governor added that anyone found responsible would be held accountable through the appropriate legal process, regardless of political connections.
His statement comes amid reports of violence during political activities in Enugu, including a shooting outside the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
Police have separately ordered an investigation into that shooting, which reportedly left a man injured and damaged the windscreens of parked vehicles.
The governor reiterated that political differences should not expose residents to intimidation or violence.
He said the right to participate in political activities must be protected across party lines, adding that the authorities must establish the facts surrounding the reported incidents and ensure that those responsible face due process.
Mbah concluded by thanking Ndi Enugu and praying for continued blessings on the state.
