The Enugu State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing the alleged abuse and trial by ordeal of a woman identified as Chinenye Okonkwo in Amafu Village, Ugbawka, Nkanu East Local Government Area.

The victim was identified by the police as Chinenye Okonkwo, a woman aged about 60.
In a press release, the command said the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) to investigate the incident.
According to the police, operatives from the Nkanu East Division visited the woman and obtained her statement following the circulation of the video.
Preliminary findings indicate that the woman was allegedly subjected to severe abuse, including being forced to eat human faeces, over accusations of witchcraft and responsibility for the death of her husband’s brother’s wife.
The police said those allegedly involved had not been arrested, adding that efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspects.
