Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris has vowed justice after the killing of Lafagu Village Head Saidu Mujeli, as police confirm arrests and investigations continue.
Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has vowed to ensure that those responsible for the killing of the Village Head of Lafagu in Bagudo Local Government Area, Alhaji Saidu Mujeli, are brought to justice.
The governor also expressed concern over recent attacks around Kaoje, particularly in Lafagu and Buya communities, which reportedly resulted in deaths and the displacement of residents.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, Governor Idris described the incident as barbaric and disturbing.
“I received with profound sadness and deep concern the unfortunate incidents that occurred around Kaoje, particularly in the Lafagu and Buya communities, which resulted in the loss of lives, including the death of the Village Head of Lafagu, Alhaji Saidu Mujeli,” he said.
The governor condoled with the families of the deceased and others affected by the attacks, praying that Allah would grant the departed Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give their loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
Idris assured residents that his administration was working with security agencies to strengthen operations in the affected communities, protect lives and property, and restore peace.
He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding while calling on community leaders and residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing relevant information that could assist efforts to apprehend those responsible.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the killing through its Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.
Usman said some arrests had been made in connection with the incident, adding that further details would be released as investigations progress.
“The situation is presently relatively calm and security personnel are maintaining vigilance in the affected areas,” the police spokesperson said.
The police have not publicly established the identity or affiliation of the attackers, while investigations into the incident continue.
The killing has heightened security concerns in parts of Bagudo Local Government Area, with reports of residents fleeing some affected communities. The state government has pledged continued collaboration with security agencies to restore normalcy and safeguard residents.
