The Federal Government has opened subscription for two FGN Savings Bonds at ₦1,000 per unit, offering interest rates of 14.12% and 15.12%.

The Federal Government, through the Debt Management Office (DMO), has opened subscription for two FGN Savings Bonds at ₦1,000 per unit, offering retail investors interest rates of up to 15.12 per cent per annum.

The DMO announced the September 2026 offer, which comprises a two-year bond and a three-year bond, on behalf of the Federal Government. The offer opened on September 7 and will close on September 11, while settlement is scheduled for September 16, 2026.

The first offer is a two-year FGN Savings Bond due on September 16, 2028, with an interest rate of 14.12 per cent per annum.

The second is a three-year FGN Savings Bond due on September 16, 2029, with an interest rate of 15.12 per cent per annum.

According to the DMO, the Bonds are offered at ₦1,000 per unit, subject to a minimum subscription of ₦5,000 and in multiples of ₦1,000 thereafter, up to a maximum subscription of ₦50 million.

Interest on the Bonds will be paid quarterly on March 16, June 16, September 16 and December 16, while the principal will be repaid in full on the maturity date.

The DMO said FGN Savings Bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the Federal Government and charged upon the general assets of Nigeria.

The securities also qualify as investments for trustees under the Trustee Investment Act and as government securities under relevant tax laws, including the Company Income Tax Act and Personal Income Tax Act.

The Bonds are listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited and qualify as liquid assets for banks’ liquidity ratio calculations.

FGN Savings Bonds are designed primarily for retail investors, allowing individuals to invest directly in government securities with a minimum investment of ₦5,000. The DMO offers two- and three-year Savings Bonds for subscription regularly and provides quarterly coupon payments to investors.
