Mbah Named APC Coordinator: The Enugu governor joins the APC Presidential Campaign Council in a key regional role as the ruling party unveils its campaign structure for the 2027 election.

Abuja | August 23, 2026

ABUJA — Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has been appointed South-East Zonal Campaign Coordinator in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 presidential election, placing him in charge of coordinating the party’s campaign structure across the region’s five states.

The appointment was announced on Saturday in the full membership list of the campaign council released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy.

The development adds another prominent national responsibility to Mbah’s portfolio and is likely to attract political attention, particularly as it comes despite his relatively recent entry into the APC. While the appointment reflects the party’s official campaign structure, it also underscores the governor’s increasing visibility within the ruling party.

Peter Mbah APC South-East Campaign Coordinator Role

As South-East Zonal Campaign Coordinator, Mbah will oversee the APC’s presidential campaign machinery across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states, coordinating regional campaign activities ahead of the January 2027 presidential election.

The appointment places him alongside other governors and senior party figures assigned to lead campaign operations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

APC Unveils 2027 Presidential Campaign Council

According to the list released by Onanuga, President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the campaign council.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda were named Vice Chairmen I and II, respectively.

Other key appointments include:

  •  Senator Abdulaziz Yari — Director-General
  •  Governor Hope Uzodimma — Secretary
  • Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru — Deputy Secretary
  • Hadiza Bala Usman — Assistant Secretary

The council also assigns senior party leaders to oversee critical campaign responsibilities.

Other Zonal Coordinators Named

The APC named campaign coordinators for each geopolitical zone as follows:

  • South-East: Dr Peter Mbah
  • South-South: Governor Bassey Otu
  • South-West: Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu
  • North-Central: Governor Umar Bago
  • North-East: Senator Modu Sheriff
  • North-West: Governor Uba Sani

Senior Officials Take Strategic Campaign Roles

Several prominent APC leaders were also assigned specialised responsibilities within the campaign council.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio was appointed Deputy Director-General, South I, while Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele will serve as Deputy Director-General, South II.

Other appointments include:

  • Governor Mai Mala Buni — Deputy Director-General, North I
  • Speaker Tajudeen Abbas — Deputy Director-General, North II
  • Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin — Deputy Director-General, North III
  • Senator Adams Oshiomhole — Deputy Director-General, Mobilisation
  • Femi Gbajabiamila — Deputy Director-General, Administration
  • Hon. James Abiodun Faleke — Deputy Director-General, Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring

What Mbah’s Appointment Signals

Mbah’s appointment represents a notable regional assignment within the APC’s official campaign structure.

Although he joined the ruling party relatively recently, he has increasingly featured in national party engagements, a development that has drawn political interest. However, the appointment itself is an official organisational decision by the APC rather than a standalone indicator of broader political influence beyond the responsibilities assigned.

With the campaign council now constituted, the ruling party has formally outlined its operational framework as it prepares for the 2027 presidential election, with President Tinubu urging members to work towards securing victory for the APC.
