Adeleke has won the Osun governorship election after INEC declared the Accord candidate the winner with 511,067 votes, defeating APC’s Bola Oyebamiji.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The declaration was made on Sunday by the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, following the completion of the collation of results from across the state.
According to the results announced, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 LGAs. His 66,252-vote margin over Oyebamiji made the incumbent the clear winner of the closely contested election.
Ogunwole said a total of 1,005,800 votes were cast in the election, out of which 985,079 were declared valid, while 20,721 votes were rejected.
“I, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, hereby certify that I am the returning officer for the 2026 Osun governorship election held on Aug. 15, and declare that Ademola Jackson Adeleke of the Accord Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner,” he said.
The result confirms Adeleke’s re-election after he secured a second term in office through the Accord Party. Multiple reports published after the declaration confirmed the same vote figures and the 19-to-11 local government split between Adeleke and Oyebamiji.
The election was closely watched because of the high-profile contest between the incumbent and the APC candidate, with Adeleke ultimately retaining the governorship with a significant statewide vote margin.
Adeleke is expected to be sworn in for another four-year term on November 27, 2026.
