Governor Abdullahi Sule reveals how federal economic reforms surged Nasarawa’s monthly allocation from ₦4.5B to ₦16B, accelerating key state infrastructure projects.
LAFIA, NIGERIA — Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies have catalyzed a substantial leap in the state’s monthly revenue allocation, scaling figures from approximately ₦4.5 billion to nearly ₦16 billion.
Speaking in Lafia during an official reception for the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour—led by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga—Governor Sule emphasized that the removal of the fuel subsidy and exchange rate adjustments unlocked critical fiscal capacity across sub-national governments.
According to Governor Sule, the expanded monthly allocation has empowered his administration to fund high-impact capital projects without incurring unsustainable financial strain. Coming from a private-sector background, Sule reiterated his commitment to full fiscal transparency regarding public sector contracting and expenditures.
“During the first four years of my administration, total monthly disbursements shared among all tiers of government hovered between ₦590 billion and ₦620 billion,” Sule explained. “The previous allocation restricted our capacity to execute major capital interventions. Today, we are witnessing direct benefits as available resources have expanded significantly.”
The heightened financial inflows have accelerated key infrastructural developments across Nasarawa State, including:
Road Networks: Construction of the completed 16 km Makurdi bypass connecting Nasarawa and Benue States.
Public Buildings: Completion of the multi-billion Naira State Secretariat housing major ministries, powered by a 1-Megawatt solar farm.
Civil Engineering & Drainage: The multi-million Naira Shinge Waterstorm Channel and the Kilema Bridge along the Lafia-Doma axis.
Human Capital & Services: Expansion of the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Skills Acquisition Centre alongside investments in primary healthcare and education.
The visiting media team, comprising presidential aides and over 50 senior journalists, inspected several completed facilities across the state to assess the grassroots footprint of federal and state development initiatives.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga commended Governor Sule’s alignment with national reform objectives, noting that the structural adjustments freed up long-sought capital for state governors.
“President Tinubu introduced decisive economic measures that previous administrations continually postponed,” Onanuga stated during the project tour. “While the structural changes initially caused price adjustments and economic realignments, the long-term benefit has been the liberation of funds required to drive sub-national development.”
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, AbdulAziz AbdulAziz, added that the scale of infrastructural work across the North-Central region demonstrates measurable implementation of federal economic goals.
