NIGER – Commuters traveling along the vital Mokwa-Bida highway faced severe hardship as angry protesters mounted an unyielding blockade over rampant banditry in the region.
Demonstrators completely sealed off all primary entrance points into Mokwa, leaving scores of interstate travelers stranded since Saturday evening.
Local resident Saliu Mohammed reported that suspected bandits recently abducted fifteen residents from the community, triggering the spontaneous road closure after security agencies failed to rescue the victims.
Protesters declared that the highway shutdown will remain in effect until government intervention secures the safe release of all abducted individuals. Meanwhile, stranded passengers and commercial drivers reported waiting over five hours in static traffic with no immediate relief in sight as the demonstration extended into Sunday morning.
