KABUL, Afghanistan — Flash floods have killed at least 29 people, injured 129 others and left four missing across several provinces in Afghanistan, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
In its latest situation update released on Monday, the WHO said the floods swept through parts of eastern, southeastern and central Afghanistan, leaving casualties and extensive damage to homes and other property.
The affected provinces include Nuristan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Paktika, Paktia, Khost, Ghazni, Kabul, Kapisa, Panjshir, Parwan, Logar and Maidan Wardak.
The organisation said at least 300 families have been affected in Nuristan and Laghman alone, with many requiring urgent humanitarian assistance.
To support affected communities, the WHO, in collaboration with its health partners, has deployed three mobile health teams to the disaster-hit areas to provide emergency medical services and healthcare to flood victims.
The agency said it continues to monitor the humanitarian situation while coordinating response efforts to meet the urgent health needs of affected populations.
