Joint security operatives have rescued one abduction victim after armed men attacked a church in Affa Community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, while efforts continue to rescue two other victims still in captivity.

A joint security team in Enugu State has rescued one victim following an abduction incident at a church in Affa Community, Udi Local Government Area, while intensifying operations to secure the release of two other victims.

The Enugu State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe.

According to the statement, the victims were abducted by armed men who invaded the precinct of a church at Inoyi, Affa Community, in the early hours of August 2.

The Police said operatives, comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, swiftly launched a coordinated operation and pursued the fleeing suspects.

The statement explained that the sustained pressure from the joint security team forced the kidnappers to abandon one of the victims, who was rescued unhurt, while the suspects escaped with the remaining two victims.

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, directed the Area Commander in Oji River and the Head of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to intensify ongoing operations and deploy all available operational assets to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the arrest of the suspects.

He also instructed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID) to generate actionable human and technical intelligence to support the rescue mission.

According to the Police Command, the surveillance and technical capabilities of the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre have also been activated to strengthen the ongoing operation.

The Commissioner appealed to residents of Affa Community and surrounding areas to remain calm and continue providing credible and actionable information to security agencies. He assured the public that every available resource was being deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.

The Enugu State Police Command urged members of the public to report useful information through its emergency lines or official communication channels to support the ongoing security operation.
