The All Progressives Congress in Enugu State has expressed confidence in winning the Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election, citing ongoing development efforts and growing support among voters ahead of the poll.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has expressed confidence in securing victory in the forthcoming Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election, insisting that its candidate is well-positioned to emerge successful at the polls.
The State Chairman of the APC, Martin Chukwunweike, stated this during an interview with journalists on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in Enugu.
The bye-election was scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission following the death of Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the Senate before his passing.
INEC has fixed the election for June 20, 2026, with seven candidates from different political parties cleared to contest for the vacant seat.
According to the electoral commission’s final list, the candidates include Chika Idoko Emmanuel of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ikeje Israel Asogwa of the APC, Kingsley Chukwuebuka Aneke of the Boot Party (BP), Ejike Simon Eze of the Labour Party (LP), Elias Okwudili Ossai of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Nestor Chika Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Charles Ugochukwu Ugwuanyi of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Speaking on the party’s chances, Chukwunweike said the APC remained optimistic about its prospects and believed voters would support its candidate on election day.
“There will be an election, a winner will be declared, and I strongly believe it will be the APC candidate,” he said.
The APC chairman attributed his confidence to what he described as the positive impact of ongoing development initiatives in the state, urging residents to continue supporting the party.
He commended the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah and encouraged voters to back the APC to sustain and expand developmental gains already recorded.
“We have faith in our governor, Mr Peter Mbah. We urge the people to continue to support and vote for the APC, so that the gains already experienced will be consolidated and expanded,” Chukwunweike stated.
Commenting on the participation of rival political parties, he acknowledged that all contestants were actively preparing for the election but maintained that the APC remained focused on its campaign and voter engagement efforts.
According to him, residents of the senatorial district are aware of ongoing developments in the state and are capable of making informed decisions at the ballot box.
The Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election is expected to attract significant political attention as parties seek to fill the vacant Senate seat and strengthen their influence within the state’s political landscape.
Political observers believe the outcome of the election could provide fresh insights into voter sentiment ahead of future electoral contests in Enugu State.
