Governor Peter Mbah has unveiled a compendium documenting more than 10,000 milestones across roads, education, healthcare, transport and reforms, saying Enugu State is on course to becoming a $30 billion economy.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has unveiled a compendium documenting more than 10,000 milestones recorded by his administration across key sectors of the state’s economy, declaring that Enugu is firmly on course to greatness.
The compendium, titled “A Thousand and One Reasons Why Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Should Continue as Governor of Enugu State,” was presented to the public at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, on Wednesday.
The publication documents policies, projects, reforms and other interventions undertaken by the Mbah administration since it assumed office in May 2023. The planned unveiling and title of the compendium had earlier been announced by the Enugu State Government.
Among the achievements highlighted are over 1,521 kilometres of constructed and reconstructed roads, over 7,000 classrooms, 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, Enugu Air, the New Enugu Smart City and the revamp of previously moribund state-owned assets.
The administration’s education programme includes the development of Smart Green Schools across the state’s 260 wards, while the government has also pursued the construction of Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres to expand access to healthcare.
Represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, Mbah said the compendium was in line with the Citizens Charter, also known as Executive Order 001, which his administration introduced upon assuming office on May 29, 2023.
He said the initiative reflected the government’s commitment to accountability, traceability and transparency.
The governor, however, said the document did not capture all the achievements of the administration up to the date of its unveiling because work was ongoing while the publication was being prepared.
“Our assignment today is not just to unveil the Citizens Charter via the compendium. It is a lot more than that. It is a conversation on the sacrosanct duty and responsibility you gave to us to midwife and preside over your resources.
“But above all, it is important to note that the document we are about to unveil does not entirely capture everything this government has done because, given the time it took to prepare this document, there was a cut-off point running months behind.
“So, this document that we shall unveil shortly does not in any particular material represent the actual successful modest achievements of this government as at September 9, 2026.”
Mbah said the compendium reflected his administration’s philosophy of disruptive innovation and large-scale infrastructure development.
He thanked those who supported his vision and worked towards his election in 2023, while also acknowledging those affected by difficult decisions taken by the administration.
The governor assured residents that the government’s intention was to place Enugu on what he described as an irreversible path to greatness and position the state as a $30 billion economy and a preferred destination for investment, business, tourism and living.
“I also want to thank all those who made sacrifices, who lost their friends because they felt supporting us was the right thing to do. I want to thank all those who invested their resources. I want to thank all those who took pains in very unimaginable circumstances to ensure that Enugu moves to the next level.
“But what you must take home with you is that our intentions are noble. What we try to do is to put Enugu on a reversible path of greatness. What we try to do is to ensure that Enugu will not compete with Nigeria or within Nigeria,” he added.
In his welcome address, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the administration had pursued an extensive urban development agenda covering the New Enugu Smart City, urban renewal and environmental sustainability.
The New Enugu Smart City is among the major projects identified by the administration as part of its broader strategy to create a modern, investment-friendly and globally competitive economy.
Onyia said the state’s fiscal architecture had also undergone significant reforms through revenue automation, reforms at the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service, improved financial management, the Treasury Single Account, enterprise resource planning and broader institutional restructuring.
He added that the administration had sustained investments in youth empowerment, women development, technology, skills acquisition, social protection, tourism, environmental sustainability and community development.
According to him, the ultimate objective of the administration’s policies and projects is to improve the lives of the people.
“Behind every project is a community; behind every policy is a citizen; and behind every statistic is a human being whose life government seeks to improve,” Onyia said.
He also stressed the importance of institutional reforms in sustaining development, saying sustainable progress required not only physical projects but also institutions and systems capable of maintaining them.
The Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, South, Dr. Ben Nwoye, commended the Mbah administration for the scale and spread of its projects and development interventions across the state.
Similarly, the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, commended the governor for his developmental strides and pledged the continued support of the legislative arm of government.
The Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Samuel Asadu, also praised the administration’s performance and called for continued support for the governor.
“We have never had it so good. It is not about party. But let us give the job to those who understand the job. The governor wants to move the Enugu State economy to a $30bn economy and that is exactly what he is doing,” Asadu stated.
Chief of Staff to the Governor, Victor Udeh, described the compendium as an evidence-based publication and a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to accountability.
The event brought together political leaders, traditional and religious leaders, captains of industry, professionals, public servants and other stakeholders, who commended the administration for the scale and spread of its interventions across Enugu State.
The unveiling comes as the Mbah administration continues to highlight infrastructure, education, healthcare, transportation, investment and institutional reforms as central pillars of its development agenda. The government’s 2026 budget presentation similarly outlined major investments in Smart Schools, healthcare centres, roads, transportation, tourism and the New Enugu Smart City.
