The Katsina State Police Command has rescued 17 kidnap victims and busted multi-layered criminal syndicates, arresting 225 suspects for armed banditry, homicide, and arms trafficking.
In a major breakthrough against trans-border crime, the Katsina State Police Command announced it successfully rescued 17 kidnap victims and intercepted 225 high-profile suspects involved in kidnapping, armed banditry, culpable homicide, and arms trafficking across the state throughout May 2026.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, unveiled the extensive security breakthrough during a comprehensive press briefing on Thursday morning at the Command Headquarters in Katsina.
According to the PPRO, the targeted operational victories were the direct result of precision intelligence-led raids, seamless inter-agency collaboration, and aggressive, sustained forest patrols. The measures were designed to systematically dismantle the logistics networks of terrorists, cattle rustlers, and arms traffickers operating along vulnerable border communities.
“The suspects included seven kidnappers, 10 armed robbers, one armed bandit, two informants, and 21 persons arrested for drug-related offences. About 10 suspects were also arrested in connection with murder and culpable homicide cases, 36 persons for rape and sodomy, and 13 social miscreants, among others,” DSP Sadiq-Aliyu detailed.
The police spokesman disclosed that a total of 150 major felony cases were officially processed by detectives during the month under review. Demonstrating rapid administrative turnaround, the command has already successfully concluded investigations and charged 109 of those cases directly to courts of competent jurisdiction for aggressive prosecution.
The command also provided a clean bill of health regarding the 17 rescued hostages. Following their extraction from various forest hideouts, the victims were immediately processed through comprehensive medical examinations, provided psychological stabilization support, and safely reunited with their respective families.
Beyond the arrests, frontline tactical units recovered a massive cache of stolen civilian property and illicit operational gear from various criminal cells. This included 20 laptops, mobile phones, specialized vehicle master keys, and electronic scanners used by car theft syndicates.
Furthermore, police teams intercepted 466 rustled livestock, three vehicles, 22 operational motorcycles used by bandits for rapid rural raids, and four large bags containing vandalized high-tension span wire.
Reassuring residents of an unyielding commitment to territorial security, DSP Sadiq-Aliyu expressed deep gratitude to the Katsina State Government and the Inspector-General of Police for providing vital equipment and political backing.
He urged the public to remain highly vigilant and continuously supply security agencies with timely, actionable intelligence, warning remaining criminal elements to flee the state or face the full weight of the law.
