As the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations kick off across the Federal Capital Territory, emergency officials place all station commanders on red alert to prevent festive domestic accidents.

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), FCT Command, has strongly advised residents of the capital territory to adhere strictly to all established fire safety rules and preventative measures as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.

The official safety directive was shared on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, in Abuja by the FFS Command Spokesperson, Barnabas Anyam. The festive advisory coincides with the Federal Government’s declaration of Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays to allow the Muslim Ummah to observe the holy season.

Anyam stated that the FCT Command Controller, Muhammed Anas, has directed all residents to be proactive within their homes and domestic spaces.

Given that Sallah festivities naturally come with an increase in kitchen and cooking activities, the controller emphasized the critical need for families to be careful when using liquefied petroleum gas (cooking gas), electrical appliances, or kerosene stoves to prevent avoidable home disasters.

The fire chief noted that besides extinguishing structural infernos, the agency is fully equipped to deploy personnel for complex emergency operations, including deep-water drowning rescues and building collapse search-and-rescue interventions.

To ensure safety, Anas stated that residents must adhere to basic safety rules, such as purchasing certified fire extinguishers and fire blankets for their kitchens.

He also cautioned parents to stay vigilant during the holiday bustle and keep children from handling inflammable materials or matches.

“Residents should not hesitate to contact the command during emergencies by dialing our direct hotlines: 08032003557 or 112,” Controller Muhammed Anas urged.

To back this safety message with swift action, the Controller has placed all Station Commanders and frontline firefighters on “red alert” across the territory. Under these strict operational guidelines, all personnel are classified as essential workers, and no official leave or holiday pass has been granted for the duration of the Sallah break.

Anas assured the public that all firefighting trucks and equipment are in perfect working order, warning that the command will not tolerate excuses or performance lapses. While wishing the Muslim faithful a glamorous and happy celebration, he urged citizens to use the period to pray for national peace and security.
