Sydney Edeh has inaugurated the APC campaign organisation for Nkanu East chairmanship candidate Mike Ogbuekwe ahead of the September 26 local government election.
The Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Council and Enugu State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign organisation for the party’s chairmanship candidate in the September 26 local government election, Engr. Mike Chikaosolu Ogbuekwe.
The inauguration took place at the ALGON office as the APC intensifies its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the poll scheduled by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) for September 26, 2026. The election will cover chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 17 local government areas.
Addressing members of the campaign organisation, Edeh charged them to approach the assignment with dedication and unity, urging them to take the party’s message to voters across the 14 wards of Nkanu East.
He said the experience and structures developed during the council election campaign would also provide useful groundwork for future political engagements, stressing the need for members to operate as a coordinated and committed team.
Edeh said the achievements of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration would provide the APC campaign with a strong grassroots message, citing initiatives including Smart Green Schools, Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres and road infrastructure.
“Peter Mbah is working and we are all seeing the impact all around us, down to every community,” he said, urging campaign members to effectively communicate the administration’s development efforts to residents.
The council chairman also described Ogbuekwe, popularly known as Mmirioma I of Nkerefi, as a “sellable personality” with proven credentials and a track record, urging the campaign team to present the candidate and the party convincingly to voters.
Ogbuekwe emerged as the APC’s candidate for Nkanu East after incumbent Edeh completed his constitutionally permitted two-term tenure. The APC subsequently presented Ogbuekwe with his Certificate of Return at the party’s state secretariat in Enugu.
Responding, the Director-General of the campaign organisation, Prince Chukwuemeka Nwatu, thanked Edeh, Ogbuekwe and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in the team.
Nwatu assured the party leadership that members of the campaign organisation would work tirelessly to mobilise support for the APC candidate.
He announced that the campaign council would commence a tour of the 14 wards on September 7, giving Ogbuekwe and his team an opportunity to engage residents directly, listen to their concerns and present their plans to communities across Nkanu East.
Ogbuekwe expressed appreciation to Governor Mbah, party leaders and supporters for the opportunity to contest the election, describing his emergence as a call to greater responsibility and service rather than a personal achievement.
He said he would draw inspiration from Mbah’s leadership and development agenda if elected, while working with stakeholders and residents to ensure that people across Nkanu East feel the impact of government.
“This campaign is not about one individual; it is about the people of Nkanu East and the future we can build together,” Ogbuekwe said.
He urged members of the campaign organisation to regard their appointments as responsibilities rather than titles and called for unity and peaceful engagement throughout the campaign.
The APC candidate assured residents that the campaign would take its message to wards, communities and villages, listen to their concerns and ensure that no part of Nkanu East was left untouched.
Ogbuekwe has previously said that, if elected, he would align his administration with the state government’s development agenda, including the Smart Green Schools initiative, while prioritising effective implementation and community-level impact.
The inauguration formally activates the APC campaign machinery in Nkanu East ahead of the September 26 poll, with the campaign council expected to intensify grassroots mobilisation from September 7 as the election approaches.
ENSIEC’s revised timetable provides for campaigning to continue until September 25, the day before polling, while voting on September 26 is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
