Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi flatly rejects the African Democratic Congress presidential primary results, slamming the process as an internal electoral sham.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been thrown into an internal crisis following the outright rejection of its presidential primary results by a frontline aspirant and former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Breaking his silence in an official statement posted on his verified X handle on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the former Governor of Rivers State strongly condemned the nationwide shadow polls, citing widespread voter disenfranchisement as the primary reason for his decision.

Amaechi flatly described the incoming state-by-state tallies as fabricated, insisting that he would never accept the outcome of a process that failed to meet basic standards of credibility, transparency, and fairness.

The internal direct primary, which was designed to adopt the Option A4 voting model across 8,809 political wards nationwide, has quickly turned into a battleground for accusations.

Amaechi’s decision to reject the process came just hours after fellow aspirant and renowned economist, Malam Mohamed Hayatudeen, pulled out of the official results announcement over similar complaints of irregularities. He stated that he had previously warned the party’s leadership – headed by the National Working Committee under former Senate President David Mark – that his acceptance of the final verdict would depend entirely on the integrity of the voting process.

The former governor raised serious concerns about the scale of the irregularities, alleging that nearly 80 percent of registered party members were intentionally blocked from participating at their local polling units.

He questioned the moral position of the ADC, noting that a political movement that routinely criticizes the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over vote-buying and rigging cannot afford to engage in the exact same anti-democratic malpractices internally.

“Following reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country during the ADC presidential primaries yesterday, I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced. I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold, to rescue Nigerians from the impunity and gross mismanagement that our country is currently facing,” Amaechi stated.

Amaechi emphasized that the ADC was built to give ordinary citizens a voice and foster national unity across ethnic and religious lines.

He argued that turning a blind eye to widespread voter manipulation, falsified results sheets, and structural disenfranchisement within the party destroys the movement’s credibility.

While baseline results from northern hubs like Yobe State show former Vice President Atiku Abubakar taking an early lead, parallel exercises and conflicting declarations from states like Ebonyi and Bayelsa highlight a growing split within the party’s ranks, threatening to disrupt its strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
