The Enugu State Government joins forces with global giant Haier to launch a revolutionary digital training initiative for secondary school students.

In an ambitious move designed to completely overhaul the educational ecosystem and position youth for global competitiveness, the Enugu State Government, in strategic partnership with Chinese manufacturing giant Haier Factory, has officially launched a cutting-edge digital training initiative for secondary school students across the state.

The joint venture aims to equip young learners with highly practical technological skills, fostering self-reliance and entrepreneurship well ahead of their graduation. Officially tagged the “Enugu-Haier Joint School-Enterprise Cooperation Training Programme,” the pioneering exercise was organized by the State Ministry of Education on Tuesday in Enugu, signaling a bold step forward in the administration’s aggressive policy to merge classroom learning with direct industrial application.

Speaking on the transformative goals of the initiative, the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, emphasized that this partnership serves as a central pillar of the state’s broader educational reforms focused on innovation and experiential learning.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Nkechi Ewoh, the commissioner explained that the establishment of the digital production factory was intentionally structured to deepen hands-on tech exposure from basic to post-basic educational levels. To ensure the program seamlessly integrates into the students’ lives without disrupting their regular academic calendar, the daily training sessions are uniquely scheduled during after-school hours, running from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The extensive training framework will span a comprehensive nine-month cycle, with the introductory phase running intensely for the first three months. The program has kicked off its initial rollout with Senior Secondary School Two students drawn specifically from specialized science, technical, and vocational institutions, with conventional secondary school classes billed to join subsequently.

To guarantee a high-quality, closely monitored instructional environment, students are being broken down into focused batches of 40 participants per session. Looking beyond the classroom, the commissioner revealed that the Enugu State Government has already structured a post-training financial empowerment plan to provide successful graduates with seed capital to launch their own practical tech ventures and startups.

Endorsing the partnership, the Chairman of the Science Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board, Mrs. Amaka Ngene, lauded the initiative as a visionary blueprint that will directly expose youth to smart manufacturing, robotics, electronics, and automated industrial production systems.

This real-world exposure aligns perfectly with the factory’s local footprints, as the Executive Director of the Enugu Haier Factory, Mr. Rich Chime, disclosed that the plant has already manufactured over 30,000 laptops and desktops, alongside 5,000 interactive smart screens, to power the state’s ongoing smart school overhaul.

With Government Technical College, Enugu, selected as the premier beneficiary of the practical curriculum, the joint enterprise successfully blends theoretical textbook concepts with live production line experience, eliciting massive excitement from pioneer trainees who describe the initiative as an eye-opening gateway to the future.
