The All Progressives Congress has revised its 2027 election timetable, shifting its presidential primary from May 15 to May 23.
The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has revised the party’s 2027 election timetable, moving its presidential primary to May 23, 2026.
The adjustment was confirmed on April 24, 2026, in Abuja by APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, after the party’s 186th National Working Committee meeting.
According to Meseko, the presidential primary, initially scheduled for May 15, has now been shifted to Saturday, May 23, alongside other revised election dates.
He said Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for all elective positions remain open to qualified party members nationwide.
Meseko explained that the timetable changes were necessary to ensure compliance with the amended Constitution, the 2026 Electoral Act, and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He added that the revised schedule had already been formally communicated to INEC.
Under the new timetable, sales of nomination forms will begin on April 25 and close on May 2.
The deadline for submission of completed forms has been fixed for May 4.
Screening of aspirants for all positions, from House of Assembly to presidential level, will take place between May 6 and May 9.
Meseko said presidential screening is scheduled for May 9, while screening results for all categories will be released on May 11.
He added that party primary elections for legislative, senatorial, governorship, and presidential positions would follow a staggered sequence on separate dates.
The APC spokesperson dismissed reports suggesting restrictions on nomination forms, insisting the process remains open to all qualified aspirants.
On the mode of primaries, Meseko said the party adopted both direct and consensus options as allowed by the Electoral Act.
He noted that any consensus primary arrangement must have the agreement of aspirants and relevant stakeholders.
According to him, where consensus fails or is rejected, the party will automatically revert to direct primary elections.
Meseko also stated that state chapters have been empowered to determine the most suitable method for conducting primaries in their respective states.
Regarding Zamfara State, he said internal congresses had been scheduled, beginning with ward, local government, and state-level exercises from April 28.
Ward congresses are expected to hold on April 30, while state congresses and appeal processes are set to conclude by May 3.
He assured party members that the updated national membership register, including new entrants, had been transmitted to INEC.
Meseko said the APC is fully prepared for its 2027 primary elections after completing necessary administrative and regulatory requirements.
