Shettima has received a powerful birthday tribute from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who praised his courage, patriotism and years of dedicated service to Nigeria as he turns 60.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has congratulated Vice President Kashim Shettima on his 60th birthday, describing him as an accomplished public servant, steadfast patriot and a leader whose career has been defined by courage, loyalty and commitment to Nigeria.
Akpabio conveyed the birthday message in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, in Abuja on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The Senate President said Shettima’s 60th birthday was an opportunity to reflect not only on his personal milestone but also on the years he had invested in public service.
He celebrated the Vice President’s career trajectory from commissioner to governor, senator and ultimately Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Akpabio particularly recalled Shettima’s tenure as Governor of Borno State during one of the most difficult periods in the state’s history, when insurgency posed severe security and humanitarian challenges.
He said the Vice President remained committed to his responsibilities during the difficult period, providing leadership while demonstrating resilience and maintaining hope among the people.
“You governed Borno State at one of the most difficult periods in its history, when terror tested the resilience of its people and challenged the authority of the Nigerian state,” Akpabio said.
The Senate President said Shettima had carried the same resilience, experience and patriotic commitment into his role as Vice President, where he has worked alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Akpabio said the partnership between Tinubu and Shettima demonstrated the importance of unity of purpose at the highest levels of government, particularly in confronting the country’s challenges and laying the foundation for a more prosperous future.
The Senate President also praised Shettima’s contribution to national governance and his continued commitment to the development of Nigeria.
