The All Farmers Association of Nigeria has elected new executives in Enugu State, with Emmanuel Eneh emerging chairman for a three-year term.
The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has elected new executives in Enugu State, with Mr. Emmanuel Eneh emerging as chairman through a consensus vote.
Delegates drawn from the 17 local government areas of the state ratified the election on April 24, 2026, in Enugu.
Eneh will lead AFAN in Enugu State for the next three years.
Other officials elected include Chief Emma Okenwa as Deputy Chairman, Mr. Louis Okolo as Vice Chairman (Enugu East), Mr. Anthony Obasi as Vice Chairman (Enugu West), Mr. Boniface Eze as Vice Chairman (Enugu North), and Mr. Lazarus Orekeyi as Secretary.
Speaking during the exercise, AFAN Deputy National President and leader of the Enugu Election Monitoring Team, Chief Daniel Okafor, commended the Enugu State Government for supporting farmers.
He described AFAN as a strategic organisation capable of influencing government policies through its role in food security and national development.
Okafor urged all contestants to accept the outcome of the election peacefully and work in unity for the benefit of farmers across the state.
He also charged the new leadership to demonstrate peace, teamwork, and effective service delivery.
Outgoing chairman, Mr. Romanus Eze, described the election as a major milestone after more than seven years without state-level polls.
According to him, previous delays were caused by internal national challenges that have now been resolved.
He said the association had become more united nationwide and was conducting elections across states to consolidate that progress.
Eze thanked the Enugu State Government for continuous support, noting that AFAN members had been actively involved in agricultural programmes and policy implementation.
Enugu State Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Dr. Patrick Ubru, urged the new executives to mobilise farmers across commodity groups and develop a comprehensive database.
Represented by Deputy Director Mr. Theophilus Ivo, the commissioner said proper registration would improve access to government interventions and agricultural planning.
Also speaking, Enugu State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Ngozi Nwakaeze, advised farmers to open Bank of Agriculture accounts to benefit from federal intervention programmes.
In his acceptance speech, Eneh thanked delegates for their confidence and pledged to reposition AFAN for greater productivity.
He promised training and retraining programmes to improve access to modern inputs and boost agricultural output across Enugu State.
Eneh also pledged support for the administration of Governor Peter Mbah, saying stronger collaboration with government would accelerate agricultural development.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of certificates to the newly elected officials.
