Security operatives in Anambra recorded a major success after rescuing an abducted victim, arresting three suspected kidnappers, and recovering a firearm alongside ₦469,000 ransom in Nnobi.
A police-led joint security operation in Anambra State has led to the rescue of an abducted victim, the arrest of three suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of a firearm and ₦469,000 ransom.
The operation was carried out on the evening of April 18, 2026, by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the joint security team acted on credible intelligence and stormed a bush located at Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi, in Idemili North Local Government Area.
During the raid, officers successfully rescued the kidnapped victim and arrested three male suspects identified as Chidalu Obi, 25, Chichebem Ojenigbo, 26, and Chikannechukwu Eze, 20.
Police also recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and the sum of ₦469,000, believed to be ransom paid by the victim’s family.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly lured the victim, an electrician, with a fake job offer. On arriving at the agreed location, he was reportedly blindfolded at gunpoint and taken to the bush, where he was held captive.
Further investigations showed that the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted receiving the ₦469,000 ransom through a SportyBet account allegedly owned by one of the suspects, Chidalu Obi.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to improving security across the state and protecting lives and property.
The command also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to help combat crime.
