EEDC has recorded a major healthcare milestone with the commissioning of a Sick Bay at its Enugu headquarters, aimed at improving staff wellbeing, emergency response, and workplace medical support.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has taken a significant healthcare step with the commissioning of a Sick Bay designed to improve employee welfare and provide immediate medical support for staff, customers, and visitors.
The facility was officially opened on Monday at the company’s corporate headquarters in Enugu as part of EEDC’s commitment to building a safer, healthier, and more productive workplace.
According to the company, the Sick Bay will provide first aid services and basic emergency care for anyone who experiences sudden illness or injury within the premises. It will also serve as a stabilization point before referral or evacuation to appropriate healthcare centres when necessary.

Speaking during the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EEDC, Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu, said the project reflects the organisation’s people-first philosophy, stressing that staff health and wellbeing remain critical to operational excellence.
He clarified that the facility is not a hospital or full-service clinic, noting that it will not offer long-term treatment, advanced medical care, or surgical procedures.
The Managing Director of MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL), Dr. Ernest Mupwaya, who performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony, praised EEDC for the initiative and described it as a timely intervention for staff welfare.
He noted that employees spend a large part of their day at work, making access to immediate healthcare support essential.
The Sick Bay is managed by a qualified occupational health nurse to ensure timely and professional medical attention.

In a move to improve efficiency, the facility is powered by an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system developed internally by the EEDC ICT team.
Chief Information Officer, Engr. Idika Okechukwu, said the application allows seamless patient record management, appointment scheduling, and real-time health monitoring while maintaining strict confidentiality and data security.
He added that employees can access the system using their staff numbers, with measures in place to protect personal health records.
Chief Finance Officer, Mr. Pauli Isiguzo, also reaffirmed EEDC’s readiness to invest in initiatives that improve staff welfare, noting that a healthy workforce is essential for delivering reliable service to customers.
Several employees who attended the event described the development as reassuring and timely, saying access to immediate healthcare support within the workplace would improve safety and concentration on their duties.
With the new facility, EEDC has further strengthened its reputation as an employee-focused organisation while setting a positive standard for workplace healthcare initiatives in Nigeria’s power sector.
